"It's Not My Birthday" by They Might Be Giants
originally from the EP "They'll Need A Crane"
ALTERNATIVINATE TABULAMINATION by gt9947c@prism.gatech.edu
HEY ARCHIVIST! HEY ARCHIVIST! HEY ARCHIVIST! HEY ARCHIVIST!
This is basically a transposition (not to mention a direct
copy-and-paste job) of the earlier post by, uh... E.M. It's a
wonderful tab, and I'm grateful for it, but-- it wants you to play
just a D chord through most of the chorus. Nuhnh-unh. I won't do
it. This version of the chorus is better, though it does get a little
hairy (at least on my acoustic) towards the end.
You should also know that I don't know/especially care what key this
song is in on the recording, so if it doesn't match the cd, well,
don't panic.
1.
G C D -
Well the rain falls down without my help I'm afraid
G C D -
and my lawn gets wet though I've withheld my consent
G C Cm
when this grey world crumbles like a cake
G Em
I'll be hanging from the hope
C? A D -
that I'll never see that recipe again
2.
As I walk I think about a new way to walk
as I think I'm using up the time left to think
and this train keeps rolling off the track
trying to act like something else
trying to go where it's been uninvited
Chorus: (note: use barre chords, you dummy!)
G A B B C D G A B B C D
It's not my birthdaaaay, it's not todaaaaaaaay!
G A B B C D D E F# F# G A
it's not my birthday so why do you lunge out at me
G Dm Am D
when the word comes down "Never more will be around"
G F G C
though I'll wish we were there, I was less than we could bear
Am C D -
and I'm not the only dust my mother raised
Bridge:
|: G - G7 -
So I'm rattling the bars around this drink tank discreetly
C - A D :|
I should pour through the keyhole or evaporate completely
but there'd be no percentage and there'd be no proof
and the sound upon the roof is only water
(Repeat verse 1)
(Chorus)
Coda:
C D G -
I am not the only dust my mother raised
