there are two interesting tenchniques used on this tune:
#1 trem picking, or double picking, this is when the note is played several times very fast
#2 trem slide this is the sound heard at the start of "pipeline".
It is proformed by:
=mutting the bridge of the guitar w/the right hand palm
=sliding down from the high frets to the low frets with a left hand finger
=not pressing the left hand finger doen hard on the strings
