. : staccato (cut short--first Em chord)

* : slight bend [my own "add"?--as may be "2->4" slide in 1st measure]

% : eighth-note rest

r : "return" of bend

====: hold tone thru count (legato arpeggio)

^^^^: occasional variations at this point (see--uh, hear--recording)

________

LEAD . . . woulda taken me days--but it's a good song for improv., great

for practicing the DORIAN mode, in fact (scale: e-f#-g-a-b-c#-d-e;

actually a D major scale starting on the 2nd step [Em = ii in D]).

One characteristic "sound" of the Dorian can be achieved by

playing the *notes* of the D major chord (d-f#-a) over the Em chord

_per_se_. For instance, try playing f#-d-f#-d-f#-d(-e) over the 1st

measure (Em)--a common pattern-formula found in lots of famous leads

(e.g., "Oye Como Va").
