Ron Isley Ordered to Complete 37-Month Prison Sentence
Ron Isley will not be avoiding jail time. The 66 year old Isley suffered a minor stroke in 2004 and is currently in poor health; however, he must complete his entire 37-month federal prison sentence for tax evasion. Isley's lawyers argued before a three-judge panel that rejected the argument that the sentence is unreasonable due to his age, medical condition and lack of proof that the federal prison system can provide him adequate health care.
The R&B artist was sentenced in 2006 after being convicted of five counts of tax evasion and one count of willful failure to file a tax return. Prosecutors accused Isley of failing to file tax returns on many occasions over a three-year period and declared bankruptcy after the IRS seized his yacht, cars and other property in 1997.
Isley came out from bankruptcy four years later however, he did not file tax returns in 1997 to 2001 and in 2002 he didn't sign his tax return and failed to pay all taxes due.
Isley will complete his sentence from the Terre Haute Federal Corrections Institution in Indiana sometime in April 2010.
