Artist: REM
From: Fazekas Gabor (murmur@nograd.net)
G Bm E
you wake up in the morning
G Bm E
and fall out of your bed
G Bm E
mean cat eat parakeets
D C H
and this one's nearly dead.
G Bm E
you dearly wish the wind shift
G Bm E
and greasy windows slide
G Bm E
open for the parakeet
D C H
who's colored bitter lime.
Em C
open the window
Am Bm D
and lift into your dreams
Em C
lately, baby
Am D H7
you can barely breathe.
G Bm E
a broken wrist an accident
G Bm E
you know that something's wrong
G Bm E
you fold the leavings of your past
D C H
no one knows you've gone.
G Bm E
the sunspot flares of the early
G Bm E
nineties light up your wings.
G Bm E
and scan the shortwave radio
D C H
it's tracking outer rings.
Em C
open your window
Am Bm D
to lift into a dream
Em C
baby, baby
Am D H7
you can starts to breathe
G Bm E
the tectonic dispatcher shifts
G Bm E
to smooth the ocean floor
G Bm E
and flattens out to warmer winds
D C H
of Brisbane's sunny shore.
G Bm E
where buddhas tend to mending wrists
G Bm E
a tea made from the leaves
G Bm E
of eucalyptus fragrances
D C H
and coriander seeds.
Em C
open the window
Am Bm D
to lift into a dream
Em C
baby, baby
Am Bm D
you can starts to breathe.
Em C
open your window
Am Bm D
to lift into a dream
Em C
baby, baby
Am D H7
you can starts to breathe
G Bm E
you wake up in the morning
G Bm E
to warm Pacific breeze
G Bm E
where mean cars chew on licorice
D C G#m
and cannot climb the trees.

PARAKEET
here's my shot at "parakeet," which i think is the best song on UP. it's a great sound, great especially for halloween. it was kinda hard to get the chords considering that there is no guitar in this song (okay there might be some weird riffs played in the chorus), it's keyboard transcribed for guitar, so the chords might not be exactly right, but i think they're pretty close. i know that the bass notes are right, at least. if the chords don't sound right, try out power chords, those are alright in this song. in fact, there's one chord that i'm a little iffy on, and that's the C# in the verses. you be the judge. i'm pretty sure about the rest. enjoy.
here's that spooky-sounding riff that mike plays on the keyboard in the chorus:
d--1-2-4-5
G F#m E
you wake up in the morning
D C# E
and fall out of your bed
D C# E
mean cats eat parakeets
D C Eb
and this one's nearly dead.
G F#m E
you dearly wish the wind shift
D C# E
and greasy windows slide
D C# E
open for the parakeet
D C Eb
who's colored bitter lime.
Em (riff) C (riff)
open the window
Am Bm D
and lift into your dreams
Em (riff) C (riff) Am D Ebm
lately, baby, you can barely breathe.
(chords same as above)
a broken wrist, an accident
you know that something's wrong
you fold the leavings of your past
no one knows you've gone.
the sunspot flares of the early
nineties light up your wings.
and scan the shortwave radio
it's tracking outer range.
open the window
and lift into your dreams
baby, baby, you can start to breathe
the tectonic dispatcher shifts
to smooth the ocean floor
and flattens out to warmer winds
of brisbane's sunny shore.
where buddhas tend to mending wrists
a tea made from the leaves
of eucalyptus fragrances
and coriander seeds.
open your window
and lift into a dream
baby, baby, baby starts to breathe
open the window
and lift into a dream
baby, baby, baby starts to breathe
you wake up in the morning
to warm pacific breeze
where means cats chew on licorice
D C G#m
and cannot climb the trees.
end on some G#m riffs.
notes...i'm open to suggestions as to what that last chord is. it's really cool, and it's definetly a chord not used anywhere else in the song. okay, i think that's it.
