R. Kelly’s Upcoming Trial May Be Delayed, Again
Lawyer Sam Adam reportedly may have further delayed the trial of U.S. R&B singer R. Kelly by disputing the judge's decision not to let Adam defend Kelly. Adam, 72, Tuesday requested that the Illinois Appellate Court delay the May 9 trial pending a ruling on whether Adam will be permitted to stand up in court for Kelly, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday. Representing Kelly, 41, now are Ed Genson, Marc Martin and Adam's son Samuel E. Adam. Judge Vincent Gaughan reportedly told the senior Adam he could not take part in the case after Adam refused to re-question witnesses prior to the trial. "A judge of the Circuit Court has no authority to promulgate special rules and regulations," Adam wrote. Kelly has denied accusations claiming he had sex with a female minor on camera, a case that began in June 2002.
