R&B singer R. Kelly and Olympia Fields, Ill., officials agreed to drop suits against each other in a dispute regarding a guard shack on Kelly's property.

Village President Linzy Jones, an attorney who is also Kelly’s neighbor, said Kelly's actions showed "it was never anything personal" regarding the guard shack Kelly had built on his property without permits, according to the Chicago Sun-Times said.

The guard shack was torn down. Village attorney John Murphey said Kelly agreed to pay more than $20,000 to cover attorney fees and code violation fines. Village codes do not permit guard shacks at houses but Kelly, citing his celebrity status, sought an exception.

The dispute ends as Kelly awaits a criminal trial. He is accused of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl.
