R. Kelly Misses Court Date & Threatened with Arrest Warrant
R. Kelly missed his court date (for his child pornography case) yesterday in Chicago and was threatened with an arrest warrant due to his tour buses being ordered off the road for eight hours in Utah. Kelly's four tour busses were pulled over after police clocked them going 100 mph. When police officers checked the buses' log books they found that the drivers didn't document enough rest time. The drivers also seemed fatigued. As a result, R. Kelly missed his court date.
Cook County prosecutors asked the judge to issue a bench warrant claiming the court had already been generous in allowing R. Kelly to go on tour. According to Assistant State's Attorney Shauna Boliker, "The very least he (R. Kelly) could do is be here for his appointed court date." The judge entered the arrest warrant for Kelly, but upheld it until this morning, when he ordered the singer to appear in court. At today's rescheduled hearing, the judge is expected to set a trial date in the case, which has been pending since 2002.
Kelly was charged in 2002 for child pornography after a tape was leaked of him having sex and peeing on a 14 year old female.
