Primus - The Chastizing Of Renegade bass tab
Song: The Chastizing of Renegade
Artist: Primus (riffs by Les Claypool)
Album: Brown Album
Tabbed By: Frantz Fanon
I've only been listening intensively to Primus for about 6 months, so I apologise to
the die hard fans for any perceptible arrogance in claiming this tab to be a proper one.
I've never seen Les play it, so I have no idea what bass he uses, and I doubt it actually
matters (6 string is my guess...but its just because I want one!).
I do it on a 5 string, and although a 4-string does it too, i find it more confortable having
the low B string at hand... .The principle for the verse is simple, low F and F# , and fill
the blanks with a 1-2-3-4 pop-thump-thump-pop pattern.
The riffs are a bit all over the place, but a quick listen to the song will set it straight
for you and surely wont hurt. This song is an epic, a megaclassic and a anthem of funk,
so enjoy.
Main Riff: This is the main riff, strummed (or left-hand tapped) right above the fretboard
with a slight distortion (I dont think it's necessary but the outro sounds great with
it).

Verse (Plain): This verse is simple in structure but very colourful when it comes to
timing. I vaguely spearated the measures, but you'll have to listen carefully and tap
with your foot to fit the 3 and 4. The whole riff relies on the two low F and F# , and Les sometimes
lets the D string ring off as he thumps on the last note.

Verse (Variants and Fills): Hard to hear on a bootleg but clear on the Brown Album LP.
The low E anf F are thumped close to the neck (nearly above the frets) to help minimize
buzzing and bouncing of this very fat string on the pickups... The timing isn't displayed
but it's fairly simple. Fill2 only requires the low notes to be thumpes, the rest is either
popped or even left-hand tapped (hard with hi-action bridges).

Bridge and Outro (with variant): This outro is by far the funkiest in the history of fusion,
it's got this heavy Zeppelin-esque vibe about it i reckon.
