Phish - The Inlaw Josie Wales (Live) guitar tab
Transcribed by Jonathan Attea (Buffalo, NY) JMOSES90@AOL.COM
So I just got back from summer 2000 tour and I was so moved by the 7-15
closer with Inlaw (even though that wasn't the first time I saw it) that
I needed to figure out how to play it on guitar. I checked the internet
and found that the current transcription of it (and this is with no offense
intended at all towards the previous transcriber) is almost totally wrong,
so I sat down to figure it out. Be warned, this song is TOUGH. Reading the
tabs is not enough, you almost have to get into a Trey-mindset to get all
the nuances down. It would be almost useless to try to learn this song from
tabs without it playing in the stereo next to you, as there are complex
rhythms that can not be explained with tablature.
Well, here goes. (By the way, I am pretty good at figuring things out
by ear, if anyone wants help figuring something out, feel free to e-mail
me at the above address.)
The song is in standard tuning, down one full step:
Tuned from thickest string to thinnest string, D G C F A D. Obviously you
can forego the dropped tuning and it will sound fine, just higher in pitch.
I have labeled different sections of the song as "verses." This is
just to be organized. I did this whenever there was a noticable change
in the song.
I have also put time references in (from Track 10 off of Farmhouse),
to help you keep your place.

learning the song.

Immediately following this, starting at 1:31, is a slow progression
down from G to D/F# to F to E (in reality, with the detuned guitar, the
chords are F, C/E, Eb, then D, but I just call them by their usual
positions on the guitar neck). Use the typical open chords with a simple
folksy comp on each (If you have gotten this far, you should know what all
that means). Listen to the cd to understand what I mean. When you get
to E, instead of comping on typical open-E, substitute the intro, then:
