Churnin Butter On The Farm
by: Verne Garrison-March 29, 2007-Valley Park, MO
(E) Pour rich cream into gallon glass (A) jar
Put it across your knees or your (E) lap
Bounce the jar back and (B) forth.
Cream slides end to end, slap (E) slap
Back and forth, keep on (A) rockin
For a half an hour or (E) so
Yellow streaks show thru the white (B) cream
Keep bouncing it, singing as you (E) go
Suddenly, the cream gets real (A) thick,
A big blob of butter to be-(E) hold
Pour away the butter milkthats the (B) trick
Pat the butter on a flat wood (E) mold
Push and shape it into its mould-(A) seat
Force water and milk from the butter (E) pad
Oh how fresh!...how very (B) sweet
Best butter you have ever (E) had
Now there were churns with cranks and wooden (A) paddles
But the simple glass jar, shaked on your (E) knees
Made butter faster than you could (B) skid-daddle
And sweeter than ice-(E) cream
