Talk Tonight by OASIS (from the single Some Might Say)
This is another of Noel Gallagher's amazing acoustic tracks,
taken from the single Some Might Say, which incidentally
went straight to number one in the British charts, even knocking of
the mighty TAKE THAT!!! Go BUY this single, the title track
and Aquiesce (track 3) are just as good as this one.

another twiddly bit over the Dsus2 but I haven't tried
working them out.
As usual, any corrections/comments, please send to Alan.

Talk Tonight - Written by Noel Gallagher
Second song on the Oasis "Some Might Say" CD single.
This, I hope, is a fairly accurate transcription of this beautiful Noel
Gallagher song. Skip the notes if
you're already familiar with it. But you may find some useful
suggestions!!! Hope you enjoy it,
please mail me with any thoughts, suggestions or corrections.

Notes on playing:
1) To get the right sound, this song needs to be played as a mixture of
strumming and picking. For the verse, a couple or
so strums on each chord, and then pick the E, B and G strings in that
order. I've noticed that sometimes Noel only plucks
the E, and B string, and it seems that the "D" note played on the B string
gives quite a characteristic quality to the song.
2) In the chorus (just after "I want to talk tonight...") there is some
quick picking following the G chord. I.e.
G D Dsus4 D Em
-3--3----2--3---2-------0-----
-0----0------------3----0-----
-0-------------------2--0-----
-0----------------------2-----
-2----------------------2-----
-3----------------------0-----
If you don't want to pick this, try strumming: G, D, Dsus4, D, Dsus4, D,
Em (strumming the D chords very quickly!),
which also sounds ok!
3) There are loads of chords in this song (see below), and I've found that
many others can be used which sound ok. You
can easily substitute Am for A7sus4 or Cadd9 for C9. But I'm fairly sure
(apart from right at the end, see note 4) that these
are the chords as played on the song, i.e. on the CD. I've noticed that in
live versions, Noel has opted for simpler chords
and use of more strumming, as opposed to picking out notes. I guess if
Noel plays it both ways, then this means there's no
official way of doing it. But this is the most...fullsome sound, in my
opinion :)
At the part in the song where he sings "and you and me see how we are". It
feels like you can play Am, Em7, C. For some
reason the B note on the second string of the Em7 chord feels right, but
he doesn't play it!!! He just plays A7sus4, Cadd9!
Although when he played live with Paul Weller, Paul did play that Em7
chord on the keyboard.
4) Right at the end of the song, there is some very quick strumming in the
repeat chorus. I'm unsure if I've got the exact
nature of these chords right, although playing G,D,C,D quickly (change on
each beat) does sound about right (but I accept
that there's probably an add9 in there somewhere!). Also I'm still a
little hazy as to how the words "'bout how you saved
my life" are sung over this part.
5) In the chorus, there are two places where the line "I wan't to talk
tonight" can be sung. Noel sings this line in both
places (it changes at the end) so beware!
6) Any lyrics in brackets indicate backing vocals.
7) Additional notes are enclosed in asterisks where appropriate
Chords
Numbers refer to fret positions on each of the six (EADGBe) strings.
Note that there are two versions of G used (I think).

Talk Tonight, written by Noel Gallagher, performed by Oasis
Talk Tonight can be found on the UK "Some Might Say" single and the US
"Wonderwall" single. Great song.

quite right; some off more than others, so here's my attempt to do it right.

--------------
During the chorus there's a second guitar that plays this little riff
during each G Dsus Em2 part of the chorus.
[NOTE: this is almost the exact same riff as can be found in the "And all
the roads we have to walk are winding" part of Wonderwall.]

Played same as intro.
Chorus

Same
That's pretty much it, except towards the end of the song, there are 2
changes to the usual patterns.
1) Towards the end, the "And you and me see how we are" part goes
C* Am* B/G C*
and you and me ...
Am* B/G C*
you and me see ...
2) At the end where the chorus is repeating again and again, it starts to
go like this every 4 measures:
G Dsus Em2
I wanna ...
C*2 G Dsus Em2
I wanna ....
C*2 G Dsus Em2 Dsus C*2 Dsus
I wanna ...
G Dsus Em2
I wanna ...
(whatever, and so on)
Enjoy!! And if you haven't yet heard the version of Talk Tonight with
Paul Weller playing keyboard and singing background vocals, check it out!!
