R&B singer Ne-Yo, will make his feature debut in "Stompin'," an urban dance film that begins shooting this month in Atlanta.
The story follows a troubled 19-year-old from the gang-infested streets of L.A. who enrolls in a black university in Atlanta. There he is courted by the top two campus fraternities, both of which need his fierce street-style dance moves to win the highly coveted national stepshow competition. The movie is set in the world of "fraternity stepping," a popular activity among black colleges.
Columbus Short will play the college student, while Ne-Yo is his roommate. Brian White is a leader of a fraternity, and Meagan Good is Short's love interest. Sylvain White is directing for Screen Gems, the Sony mid-budget label that scored in 2004 with the similarly themed "You Got Served."
Short stars in "Steppin' Up: Save the Last Dance 2." Ne-Yo's album "In My Own Words" recently bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while his single "So Sick," worked its way up to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
