Misc - The Major Scale guitar tab
The formula of the major scale is the following: T T ST T T T ST, where T is one tone (a whole
step, 2 frets on the guitar) and ST is a semitone (a half step, 1 fret). Using that formula
you can build up the major scale in any key. For example, if you start with an A, you get
the following:
A B C# D E F# G# A
T T ST T T T ST
On the guitar, it looks like this (2 octaves):
|-----------------------------------------4--5--|
|-----------------------------------5--7--------| Note: The numbers above the Tab
|--------------------------4--6--7--------------| indicate which fingers
|-----------------4--6--7-----------------------| to use.
|--------4--5--7--------------------------------|
|--5--7-----------------------------------------|
2 4 1 2 4 1 3 4 1 3 4 2 4 1 2
There are many ways to play this. Here's another one (1 octave):
|----------------------------
|----------------------------
|---------------------------- etc.
|----------------------6--7--
|------------5--7--9---------
|--5--7--9-------------------
When you start the major scale on the 6th string, the fingering always remains the same,
regardless of the tone you start with. Try it out!
However, because of its brilliant and "happy" sound, the major scale is not much used
in the heavy metal genre.
