Misc - Modes, Cycle Of 5ths, 4ths, Technique Styles And Other Important Things bass tab
Tabber:Theemuisemo
This is a whole buttload of technique stuff that if you want to
advance as a bassist, you will need to know. It definantly IS
nessesary to know this stuff! Happy playing everyone!
I'll start by giving you the modes, these are important because
you can make up bass lines within a key by using this to your advantage.
You can definantly memorize these in a couple of weeks if you
work hard enough. Oh, and when playing, you ALWAYS start in the
bottom left corner.
(the way this is set up is, the 4 lines the numbers are on are your
4 strings, also the vertical lines are your frets, and the numbers
are just the fingers you should be using 1 being your pinkie and
5 being your thumb... ok? I don't think it's too confusing..

Ok, Next up is the Cycle of 5ths and 4ths... this is an easy way
to remember how to write music and stay in the same key. (the Zeros
on the key of C mean that there are no flats or sharps in the key!)
Cycle of 5ths:
Keys :_C_G_D_A_E_B_F#_C#_____
Sharps : 0 F C G D A E B <--- these are all sharps
Cycle of 4ths:
Keys :_C_F_Bflat_Eflat_Aflat_Dflat_Gflat_Cflat_____
Flats : 0 B E A D G C F <--- these are all flats
REMEMBER! There are 12 notes! There is a half step between the
notes B and C, and E and F.
Now, this may seem very 'beginner' but it's also a needed to always
remember that your strings open and the strings on your 12 fret
are the same note!! but the 12 fret is 1 octave higher. That is
good to remember incase you are writing and need to have an accent
bridge or something higher but want to keep it in the same family.
Now for the technique information.
I'll start with the technique of plucking a chord, When doing
so (plucking a chord) you can either put your thumb and index
fingers on the strings and pull together.. or you can put your
index and middle finger on the strings and pull back... or you
may feel more comfortable using a pick and struming.
Now, using a pick is not nessesary! I wouldn't suggest it, it
can make you lazy and it's really only needed if you're playing
a spaz punk style, but even then you can train yourself to where
you can play extremely fast. Picks are often used to change the
sound you get when playing also. Picks give a higher twang of
a sound while as when using your fingers, you get a warm deep tone
that can't be made with a pick. BUT, you can kind of get the same
sound as a pick with your fingers if you play really low down near
the bridge.
I would also suggest (if you're a beginner) practicing arpeggios
as much as you can. I would also suggest using ALL of your fingers
in the beginning when playing songs because it builds strengh
that is much needed later.
Ok well, that's a wealth of information.. if this 'tab' goes
over well, i'll submit some more things that are useful aswell...
Rate nicely, this is a needed thing for our beginning "tabs-database's"!
