News Bits: News on Mary J. Blige, Ciara, and Idia Irie
Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews, Tony Bennett and Aerosmith are joining forces for an exclusive concert series called Traveling Through Life, only open to Citi/AAdvantage card members. Each is performing a private concert: Matthews at Los Angeles' Wiltern LG (October 30); Blige at the Chicago Theatre (November 9); Bennett at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas (November 12); and Aerosmith at the Beacon Theatre in New York (December 3). Tickets will be available via PrivatePass.Citi.com starting Monday.
R&B Singer Ciara will drop a new album before the end of the year, and plans to fill in the time leading up to its release with a six-week run on the US theater circuit. The Grammy-winning singer will launch the outing Oct. 26 in Washington, DC, and has about two-dozen dates lined up, including arena performances at a couple of radio-station festivals.
A previously unreleased version of India.Arie's "I Am Not My Hair" will be heard in a new Lifetime Television movie, "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy." Arie tells Billboard this version - a duet between the R&B/soul singer and pop-rocker Pink - is actually the original version of the song. "We both had something to say with this song, and we wanted to work together," Arie explains. "This duet should have been the original version on my album ['Testimony: Vol. I, Life & Relationship'], but it fell through the cracks." The Lifetime movie, premiering Oct. 23, stars Sarah Chalke ("Scrubs") and, in a cameo role, Patti LaBelle. The single will be available on iTunes beginning Oct. 23.
