Mary J. Blige: I'm a Nice Rotisserie, Caramel Colored and Well Seasoned

Mary J. Blige

Multiple Grammy winner R&B/Hip Hop Queen Mary J. Blige says she's taking her time with the recording of her follow-up to the multi-platinum 2005 hit “The Breakthrough.” The singer says the making of that hit album taught her the value of taking things slow. "It's like the difference between a rotisserie meal and a microwave dinner," she explained recently to Hamptons Magazine. "It takes hours to get right, but it's going to be really good and you won't forget it. I'm a nice rotisserie -- caramel-colored and well-seasoned." Blige also confirms to the mag that one of her dreams is to design her own fashion line. "I want to show people that I care about consumers and how they'll look in my (line of clothes), not just my name being on the brand," she said. "I love to see people in nice clothing, especially women. You look beautiful and feel confident when you have on the right stuff." Blige's “The Breakthrough” debuted at number one on both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Billboard 200 charts, selling 727,000 copies in its first week. The biggest first-week sales for an R&B solo female artist in SoundScan history, the fifth largest first-week sales for a female artist, and the fourth largest debut of 2005. Blige received her sixth multi-Platinum award for the seventh album of her career with “The Breakthrough.” With this triple-Platinum certification, Blige has sold more than 18 million albums (In US only).
