Mary J. Blige Faces $2 Million ‘Growing Pain’ Lawsuit

Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige has been sued for allegedly stealing music used on her latest album "Growing Pains," including the single "Work That." According to recent reports, the singer who released "Growing Pains" late last year has been sued by Drama Family Entertainment Company who says the singer stole the record "Work That." In the lawsuit filed this week, which asks for $2 million in damages, Drama Family Entertainment claims to have suffered copyright infringement because "Work That" was created by a producer who worked for the company at the time and placed on the album without permission. In addition to landing on the album, Blige's "Work That" was released as a single in November of 2007 shortly after the release of an iPod commercial which featured the song. Blige has not issued a statement regarding the lawsuit. "Growing Pains" debuted at #2 in December of 2007, it has since been certified platinum.
