Mariah Gets The Boot Due To Diva

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey?s diva-like ways, unreasonable demands, and poor ticket sales led to the cancellation of her weekend concert in Hong Kong.

According to The Associated Press, the We Belong Together singer was scheduled to perform Saturday at The Tamar site near Hong Kong's Central financial district. Promoters cancelled the concert because only 4,000 tickets were sold, despite a strong advertising campaign.

"We have decided to cancel the event effective immediately due to both the poor response of public ticket sales and also due to specific last-minute demands which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans," said a statement posted Thursday on the promoter's Web site.

According to Mariah?s team, it?s reported that she was the one that canceled the concert due to unfulfilled contractual obligations.

With legions of fans in Hong Kong and South East Asia, Mariah says she appreciated the love and dedication they have shown over the years. She deeply regrets the disappointment caused to them due to unexpected circumstances beyond her control.

Mariah's most recent album, The Emancipation Of Mimi, achieved double-platinum status in Hong Kong and platinum sales in Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand. The album also earned the multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter/producer the distinction of being the best-selling Universal Music artist in China in 2006.
