What could August be without some heat ? R&B, Gospel and Soul singers Solange Knowles, Mary Mary, Ke Anthony and Karina Pasian are all slated to release their firey new albums this month. With so many upcoming releases and recent album push backs it can be hard to keep up, so here is a quick rundown of this month's hot releases which include highly anticipated debuts, soulful comebacks and a refreshing sophomore album from the younger Knowles. Kicking off this Tuesday, August 5th, R&B singer Lloyd will release his third studio album "Lessons In Love," featuring the single "Girls Around TheWorld." Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), one of the world's largest music publishers, announced a worldwide publishing agreement with chart-topping R&B singer/songwriter Lloyd. Under this agreement, Warner/Chappell will publish Lloyd's future compositions as well as Lloyd's catalog of songs. In making the announcement, Chris Hicks, Senior Vice President, Urban A&R and Head of Urban Music, Warner/Chappell Music, said, "Lloyd has demonstrated his strong songwriting skills through hit singles and we are proud that he has chosen to partner with Warner/Chappell in developing his career as a songwriter." "I'm excited about this relationship with Warner/Chappell," said Lloyd. "Their track record of success and their experienced staff were a big draw for me." Lloyd's new album "Street Love," released March 13th, debuted at #2 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. Of the 15 songs on the album, Lloyd co-wrote eight of the songs including the first single "You," which features fellow Warner/Chappell writer, Lil' Wayne. In February, the song reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart. Lloyd's second single, "Get it Shawty," which features fellow Warner/Chappell writer Yung Joc on the remix, is currently climbing the charts at #8 on Billboard's R&B/Hip Hop songs chart and #22 on Billboard's Hot 100. Eleven of "Street Love's" 15 tracks reflect the contributions of Warner/Chappell songwriters and producers including Lil' Wayne, Jazzy Pha, Zak Wallace, Don Vito, Eric Hudson and Bryan Michael Cox. Lloyd has collaborated on records with hip-hop artists ranging from Rick Ross and Young Jeezy to DJ Khaled. He is currently on tour with Bow Wow.
Jazze Pha signs Lloyd to ShoNuff Records with in partnership with Atlantic Records. Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman commented: "I am very happy to welcome Lloyd into the Atlantic family. He is an amazing singer and a gifted songwriter, with a hugely charismatic personality. Although he's only 20, Lloyd has been a recording artist for almost a decade, and it shows in the genuine soulfulness and depth of his music. He is about to come into his own as a major star, and we're thrilled to join with ShoNuff Records and Jazze Pha to bring Lloyd the breakthrough success he has long deserved." "When surrounded by greatness, you're destined for it," said Lloyd. "Not only am I now in the company of my peers at Atlantic Records - with the likes of T.I., Gnarls Barkley, Juvenile, Lupe Fiasco, Trey Songz and so many others - but through Henry "Noonie" Lee and Jazze Pha's ShoNuff, I'm also presented with the opportunity to create my own legacy with my company, Young Goldie Productions. We will make history. For there are only two kinds of people in this world, spectators and players. So let's play!" "I believe that with Lloyd, we at ShoNuff are in a perfect world," noted Jazze Pha. "I say this because Lloyd is someone I respect and admire not only as an artist and songwriter, but as a young business person who is very in tune with the music of tomorrow. The fact that he has the sound and the look, that he can pull his records off live on stage, and that he is a real 'people person' all come together to make him an exceptional talent. ShoNuff!"
One of R&B music’s golden young voices just got a heavy new shine, as The Inc./Universal Motown singer/songwriter LLOYD’s new single, “How We Do It” featuring special guest LUDACRIS, conquers two radio formats in its first week of release. The track is by far the No. 1 most-added record nationally at Rhythm Crossover, and among the most-added at Urban-formatted radio. “How We Do It”, co-written by Lloyd with Wood Works, and produced by Inglewood, California upstart team Baby Boy and Superkidd, fires up high anticipation – to say the least – around his third album, LESSONS IN LOVE, scheduled for release on July 15, 2008. Lloyd is mid-stream in a solid career growth mode: his 2007 album, Street Love, which debuted at No. 2 on both the national Billboard Top 200 album chart and the R&B/Hip-Hop album chart, was certified gold within eight weeks of its release, and spun off two major smashes: “You” featuring Lil Wayne, an R&B/Hip-Hop No.1 one and Top 10 pop hit; and “Get It Shawty,” a No. 4 R&B/Hip-Hop track and Top 20 Hot 100 entry. Lloyd’s upcoming LESSONS IN LOVE is shaping up as a true take-off moment, confirming the breadth of Lloyd’s talent and striking the same diverse and balanced mix of club joints and mellow balladry as the gold-plus Street Love, with a top-tier list of collaborators. The seductive “Lose Control” features superstar Nelly; the red-hot roster of production hands on the project include Tricky and The-Dream (Mary J. Blige, J. Holiday, Rihanna); Polow Da Don (Usher, Nelly, Fergie); J-Lack (“Get it Shawty”); Jasper and Big Reese (Mario, Mariah Carey) and Eric Hudson (Kanye West). New Orleans-born and Atlanta-raised, Lloyd made his chart debut in 2004 with the hit collaboration “South Side,” with multi-platinum label mate Ashanti. On the small screen, he was recently featured in the recent VH-1 reality show, Gotti’s Way.
