It's a bitch to be free

It's a bitch to come down where you ought to be

From: Alistair Duguid (kma@best.com)

I am attaching the original lyrics of "I am a Rabbit", which I wrote

some time in 1978 or early 1979, and Proud Scum performed for around a

couple of years starting in 1979. From the beginning, it was one of our

most popular songs.

The Lemonhead version does have a few differences. The first line may be

the "dope" line you have - I've listened to it, and I can't quite get

it. The "bliss" line in the bridge though, seems wrong. I think I hear

the "lettuce" line fairly intact when I listen to the Lemonheads.

Even in Proud Scum, we didn't perform it exactly as first written. In

particular, the second line, which I wrote as "That I'm not like a man

at all" was always sung by our singer Jonty Jamrag as "That I am not a

man at all".

An original Proud Scum version is on AK79, repressed recently in an

expanded and updated CD version, by Propeller Records, and (I

understand) still available, at least in New Zealand.

I hope this helps with your lyrics page. Thanks for doing the work to

keep it up. I, for one enjoyed it.

Best wishes,

Alistair (Rabbit) Duguid

That I'm not sexy any more

Nor are you!

You say I am an animal

I've got to have it

That I just want to have a grind

With you

Well I don't to marry you

I just want to get through

You

corrections are welcome.

Notes: Listen to the song to get the general feel of the intro music. The tab

below is just what I can pick out; it sounds like there's 2 guitars at times.

Also, chords marked with a star (for example, B5*) sound to me like they should

be phrased like this:

EADGBe

X24400 with the high e- and B- strings free to ring. Note

that this chord shape can be slid up and down the fretboard.

NOTHING TRUE (E. Dando)

It's not me, this disease

It's not you, that's not true

It's our fault, me and you

Most of all, you're not you

I dream of you, it's nothing new

I dream of you, it's nothing true

It's not you, that's not true

It's our fault, me and you

Most of all, you're not you

You're nothing new

You're nothing true

I dream of you, it's nothing you

Intro:

C#5 A5 (x2)

C#5 A5

C#5 A5

I've been down, I've been in lonely places

B5 A5

now you say you're feeling different

B5 A5

now you say you're feeling different

C#5 A5

C#5 A5

B5 A5

B5 A5

now you're saying something different

F#5 G#5

maybe you've seen it all before

E5 A5

there's no such thing as a second chance

E5 A5

there's no such thing as another try

B5 A5

there's no such thing as starting all over

B5 A5

all you ever did was make me cry

been a long time since I've seen your eyes

looking at me, looking through me

now you're looking somehow different

now you're looking somehow different

been a long time since I felt your touch

pulling me closer, and I can't fight you

now you're doing something different

now you're doing something different

say you want to give it another go

there's something that you have to know

there's no such thing as a second chance

there's no such thing as another try

there's no such thing as starting all over

all you ever did was make me cry

Interlude (the seriously bent note at the end is probably a B):

C#5 A5 F#5 G#5,

C#5 A5 B5 G#5

C#5 A5 F#5 G#5,

C#5 A5 B5...

there's no such thing as a second chance

there's no such thing as another try

there's no such thing as starting all over

all you ever did was make me cry

there's no such thing as a second chance

there's no such thing as another try

there's no such thing as starting all over

all you ever did was say goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye!

End on E.

SNEAKYVILLE (E. Dando)

I am god

You are god

How many times

do I have to die

for your sins

Sneakyville, sneaking up through the courtroom

Sneaking up round the jail

Sneaking through the grate

(you know?)

how many times do i have to die

for your sins

I'm getting tired

AMAZING GRACE (Trad. arr. by E. Dando, B. Deily, & J. Peretz)

BELT (E. Dando)

Beein livin' with your shit too long

You know it gotta end

yell to me sing your song

You know its gotta end

You just been around too long to still be my friend

Try and talk it out with you

Lets not pretend

Now's the time

Today's the day to show you what I fail to say

I gotta stick

I got some friends

This is where your story end

Right now we're gonna belt

Right now you don't look so well

That right you can't walk so well

Go on, give it a chance

May I ask for this dance

You're fucked up

D#5 A#5 G5 G#5

when I say this doesn't have to end

we washed the dishes knowing everything was all right

and there together in the curtain drifting twilight

I know your laughter shouldn't make me feel so scared

how could I doubt you, I know how much you cared

I hear it when you sigh

but I still don't know why

why does this ever have to end?

why can't I give you my heart and hand?

I think you're too scared to understand

this doesn't ever have to end . . . go!

Interlude (x2) : F#5, G#5, A#5, C#5;

F#5, G#5, A#5, D#5!!

Main riff (x2: first with just guitar; second time, w/ bass & drums)

I see you standing by a window in the hall

our eyes collide without a single word at all

the record asks, "will you still need me when I'm 64?"

I can't imagine that I wouldn't need you more

too many tears to cry

I just won't let it die

this doesn't ever have to end

life is so long and my heart won't mend

you are my lover, you're my best friend

but this doesn't ever have to end

End on D#5.

"Falling" off of _Creator_ by the Lemonheads

Song written by Ben Deily.

This interpretation by Marcel Roy (meroy@cc.memphis edu). Comments and

corrections are welcome.

Notes: Maybe it's just my copy of this record, but I can barely hear the

vocals on this album; they're way low in the mix. (Anyone know the lyrics?)

Thus, this is just a bare-bones interpretation.

Intro:

Clean guitar playing some kind of D and then some kind of F# chord. Alternate;

eventually another guitar joins in with the bass. Then there's a few bars of

bass and hi-hat. I'm not sure of the passing notes, but it sounds like this:

Bass:

A-|-5--(etc)---|-5--(etc)----|------------|----------0-|

E-|------------|-----------0-|-2-(etc)----|-2-(etc)----|

D F#

The E and the A are the passing notes.

For the verses, it just goes D to F# as above.

The chorus ("spinning in circles...") is:

E(7th fret) B E(7th fret) A (X2)

Between the second verse and the second chorus, there's a bridge of sorts:

C B (x4)

Outro

E(7th fret) B F#(2nd fret)

and then the song ends in a feedback-drenched scream.

Written and performed by B. Deily on Creator,

the group's second album.

Released on Taang Records. 1988.

Intro:

Dadd4 D Dsus2 D played twice.

Verse 1:

G Am

Once I thought I was more right than wrong,

C G

Painting myself in the corner.

G Am

What I bought and why it takes so long,

C G

Something inside of her warned her.

Chorus:

Cadd9 G

I know that we won't go on as such

G Am

But I hope we'll, keep in touch.

D Dadd4 D

Could it be that hard,

Cadd9

To send you a postcard?

Verse 2:

Fragile smile, a ragged sleeve,

Didn't laugh once to often. (pause)

Before a while, it takes to grieve,

Try to repair what I've done.

Chorus

Middle 8:

Em Cmaj7

You laugh across the kitchen,

D Dadd4 D

At something in a magazine.

Em Cmaj7

I frown across the table,

D Dadd4 D

So blunt, I'm never seen.

Em Cmaj7

Your hair falls in your eyes as you ask

Dadd4 D Dsus2 D

"What do you mean?"

Verse 3:

See yourself never satisfied,

In the clothes that you try now.

I swore myself, I said I'd never cry.

Close to saying goodbye now.

Last Chorus:

I know that it doesn't matter much

But I'm hoping to keep in touch.

I know that we won't go on as such

But I'm hoping to keep in touch.

Could it be that hard,

To send me a postcard?

Outro:

Dadd4 D Dsus2 D played twice

Plucking the fourth and sixth strings alternately whilst keeping

the chord changes going ends the song.

Comments:

In the verses I'm not convinced that it's not Cadd9 instead of C.

Try it too.

In verse 2, "Before a while, it takes to grieve", I have no idea

if the word is grieve. It could be weave, breathe etc.

CAZZO DI FERRO (E. Dando/C. Brennan)

Sei proprio un grasso menefregista

Sei dal lontano il piu

coatto uomo nel mondo

Sei una testa di cazzo-

Lato di ferro

Sei una testa di cazzo

Guardo la tivu ogni pomeriggio

Quando l'accendo, vedo

un gran cazzo - l'odio e l'amo

che Dio-sei magico

Sure he's had his share of problems,

his life has been tough

But that's no excuse to be so fucking gruff

Mark Sanger serves him ham, though he doesn't like pork

He'd rather eat his own shit with a knife and a fork

Basta con lo stronzo - non lo mangia, prego!

Lato di ferro - ti voglio bene

Lato di ferro, una domanda

Puoi dirmi se il tuo piatto e buono

Mi domandavo

You are really a fat person who does not give a fuck

You are by far the most coarse man in the world

You are a head of a dick, Ironside

I watch TV every afternoon

When I turn it on, I see a big dick -

I hate it and I love it

What a God - you are fabulous

Enough with the shit, don't eat it please!

Ironside, I'm very fond of you

Ironside, a query

Can you tell me if your dish is good?

I was wondering

You're only lonely when you let yourself get strong

Look at me how it has to be

Say goodbye it's all the past to me

I try not to talk too loud

Maybe it's because I'm crazy

You just don't argue anymore

With nothing broken, nothing thrown

Just don't ask me how I am

Just don't ask me how I am

Just don't ask me how I am

I am a rabbit

I've got to have it

It's force of habit

I'd like to share my carrot

With you

You say I've got a one track mind

That I just want to have a grind

With you

Well I don't to marry you

I just want to get through
