Kiss bassist/singer Gene Simmons has long been aware of the tape allegedly showing him having sex with a model - because the people behind it have tried to blackmail him with the footage before.

The rocker, who has been with his long-term partner Shannon Tweed, the mother of his two children, for over 20 years, is currently embroiled in legal action over the video footage, which claims to show Simmons having sex with a model.

The film has been posted on an adult website, which is selling the raunchy footage as a download.

But Simmons claims the video could be "decades old" and is likely to be from the hell raising days of his past.

Writing in a post on his official website, Simmons says, "You should know for the record, the garbage was recorded without my knowledge and is a page from my past. It happened and there's nothing I can do to repair that. The black-and-white footage may have been decades old. The entity behind the garbage has repeatedly tried to make money off of this and we have always refused. This is not the first time the entity has tried to blackmail and extort us. We have always refused and we will continue to refuse..."
