Kelis Arrested and Charged With Disorderly Conduct
The Associated Press has reported that R&B singer Kelis was charged early Friday (Mar. 2) with trying to disrupt an undercover police operation. It is said that the “Bossy” singer screamed racial profanities and precipitated aggressively towards two female officers posing as prostitutes.
Kelis, real name Kelis Rogers-Jones, 27, was detained at 4:30 a.m. and charged with the two misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence, according to the AP.
The singer was released on $1,500 bond hours later.
The arrest report said the officers were posing as prostitutes along a main avenue in the South Beach nightclub district when Kelis started screaming racial profanities at them. She then rushed toward them and had to be restrained by her friends, the report said.
Kelis calmed down for a few seconds, but then started shouting at the officers and charged them again, the report said. She resisted arrest while being handcuffed.
In addition to promoting her last album, Kelis Was Here, the singer is currently writing a cookbook and designing her own line of fashion accessories, called Cake. She is also working with Ashanti on a high-heeled shoes line called KeShany Heels.
Ford has recently chosen Kelis to help advertise the 2007 Ford Edge. She has recorded a theme song for the commercial, called "Push It to the Edge", with help from Grammy Award-nominated producer Scott Storch.
