Karina Pasian and Cassie Get The Industry to Focus on Music

Karina Pasian

R&B singer Cassie recently released her new single off her soon to be released sophomore set titled "Official Girl." Urban bloggers have created uproar behind this single because Def Jam’s new teen star Karina Pasian also recorded the song. “Karina did a demo of “Official Girl” in the past, but passed on the record because it did not fit her sound,” her father and manager Rafael Pasian tells Singersroom. In a recent interview with Singersroom.com, Karina says “she wants her fans to see her as a role model and not just property.” She went on to say that she only wants to record songs that have “meaning.” According to an industry source, Cassie’s release could be an unhealthy move by Bad Boy, due in part to Pasian’s rejection of a deal with the label after a high-stakes bidding war. Whatever the results might be, Karina’s camp is not offended by the move. “It's a good look for Cassie, it's good for her career," Rafael Pasian tells Singersroom. "It's a good thing when the music industry is focused on talent and not the bull crap.” Rafael added, "I want Cassie to be a winner, I want Karina to be a winner.” So far, Karina, 16, is making good. The Dominican-American singer, who signed with Def Jam in 2006, has just scored her first chart placement with "16 at War," which entered Billboard's latest Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at No. 93. The track comes from Pasian's debut album, "First Love," due June 3.
