Kanye Breaks Down in Tears at Concert in Paris
Kanye West has surprisingly returned to Europe to complete his concert obligations starting in Paris last Saturday night just a week after his mother's death. During the concert, when Kanye tried to perform "Hey Mama", he broke into tears and couldn't finish the song (see video).
Kanye started the song by dedicating it to his mother but couldn't get one word out after that. According to Le Parisien journalist Meddy Magloire, "He said the word, 'Mother' and just couldn't go any further. A back-up singer, the DJ and a guitar player came over to console him. (At one point,) it looked like he might collapse. He just couldn't continue. He just stood there in a spotlight, crying while the band continued playing."
Kanye left the stage after the band restarted the song, but he came back after 10-15 minutes to finish the concert with a rousing performance of "Stronger."
Kanye had cancelled a Victoria's Secrets performance on Thursday and was not at the memorial for his mother in Chicago on Friday. There was speculation that he would remain reclusive until after his mother's funeral tomorrow in Oklahoma.Kanye's mother, Dr. Donda West, died after complications from cosmetic procedures on Saturday (November 10th) night at age 58 at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina del Rey, where paramedics took her after she stopped breathing at her home. She was brought into the emergency room at Centinela where she was unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. Hospital staff tried to revive her and was unsuccessful.
