Jordin Sparks Slams VMA Host Russell Brand, "Not Everybody Wants To Be A Slut"
Jordin Sparks was among those who did not find MTV Video Music Awards host Russell Brand funny at Sunday's 25th Anniversary ceremony. Sparks became one of the first that night who slammed the British comedian's jokes about Pop/Rock group The Jonas Brothers and their purity rings before introducing T.I.'s performance. "I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It's not bad to wear a promise ring," Sparks told the crowd. The "No Air" singer went on to say "Not everybody -guy or girl- wants to be a slut." Sparks who reportedly wears a "purity ring" symbolizing her virginity was fuming before she hit the stage after Brand had made several jokes about virginity and purity/promise rings at one point suggesting that the Jonas Brothers place their rings on their genitals to capitalize off of their new found stardom. When Brand returned to the stage he issued a quasi-apology for his comments that had offended the singer. "I didn't meant to take it lightly," the host said about purity rings. "I don't want to piss off teenage fans." Still, Brand, whose apology soon morphed into a series of off-color jokes, said, "Promise rings, I'm well up for it. [But] a bit of sex, it never hurt anybody." Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton attacked Brand at the end of the show calling the comedian out on his own sexcapades in Europe. Brand received mixed reviews during the ceremony with many fans and celebrities wishing he had stayed home.
