John Legend Battles His Name, Signs On For Canadian Idol Finale
R&B singer John Legend says he is in a constant battle with the stage name ‘Legend.' "'Legend' is something that I never would have chosen for myself originally" says the singer whose album "Evolver" is due in stores this October. What was once a nickname given to him by his friends has become an international and Grammy Award-winning name that he says he is always trying to live up to. With the ‘government name,' John Stephens he says people began using Legend when he was growing up, which later grew to become his stage name. Once it came time for his first album and other projects Legend says he went with the name at his friends request – "I was just like, 'You know what? Let's just go for it. People are going to pay attention and I'm going to either live up to my name or I'm not.' My bet was on me trying to live up to the name." So far John Legend has lived up to his name. With three Grammy's under his belt and almost three albums (Evolver drops later this year) he is off to a good start. In related news, John Legend has signed on to perform at this year's Canadian Idol finale. Joining Mariah Carey, Jully Black and Brian Melo, Legend will headline the finale slated to air live on September 10th.
