India Arie

R&B singer India.Arie's debut in the previously announced Broadway revival of Ntozake Shange's 1976 play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf," directed by Shirley Jo Finney, is being "temporarily delayed. As previously reported by Singersroom, the show was scheduled to begin Sept. 8th, but according to a statement from producers Whoopi Goldberg and DreamTeam Entertainment Group, the Grammy winner will have to wait longer to hit the stage due to the recent loss of one of the production's key backers. The 1974 Obie-winning and Tony Award-nominated "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf" played The Public Theater and jumped to Broadway in 1976, with playwright Shange featured as one of seven women who "reveal themselves, their lives, loves, hardships, and ultimately their discovery of strength and love." Stay tuned to Singersroom as more develops.
