Guitar Lessons - "f Major" Chord guitar tab

Just in case you are not familiar with tablatures, these six

lines represent the following strings on the guitar

|=high e

|=B

|=G

|=D

|=A

|=low E

Here is how to play an "F Major" chord. There are 4 ways to play it.

An "F" Chord is always composed of 3 different notes as long as

its major. F, A, and C. An F major chord is exactly the same as an

e major chord, but barred at the first fret.

1: The basic F Chord

|-1-|-->This is a high F note.

|-1-|-->This is a C note.

|-2-|-->This is the A note.

|-3-|-->Here is another F note.

|-3-|-->Here is another C note.

|-1-|-->This is yet another F note in the bass.

2: Add a high "G" note. You can do this to many chords to add jazz

to them. But the only way you could manage this with an F major

chord is to have a kapo on the first fret. You just dont have enough

fingers to do this naturally.

|-3-|-->The F note that was here before becomes a high G note.

|-1-|-->This is the same C note.

|-2-|-->And the same A.

|-3-|-->The same F.

|-3-|-->The same C.

|-1-|-->The same F in the bass.

3: The E-string "F Major" Power Chord. This is one of the many

power chords commonly used in rock music. All E-string major

power chords use this same fingering, so it is important to remember

this fingering. It is also easy to play any power chord because

you will get used to holding your fingers like this. The common

F major chord is already shaped like a power chord, so in order

to make the F major power chord without leaving it exactly the

same as the standard F chord, we bring it up an octave, to the thirteenth

fret (moving forward or back 12 frets on the guitar pushes you

forward or backward 1 octave).

|-13-|-->This is a high F note.

|-13-|-->This is a C note.

|-14-|-->This is an A note.

|-15-|-->This is an F note.

|-15-|-->This is a C note.

|-13-|-->Here is the F found in the bass of the regular F chord,

but 1 octave higher.

4: The A-string "F Major" Power Chord. Any A-string major power

chord has this fingering as well. That is why power chords are

so easy to play.

|-8--|-->This is the high C note.

|-10-|-->This is an A.

|-10-|-->Here is an F note.

|-10-|-->Here is a C note.

|-8--|-->And an F in the bass.

|-x--|-->Dont play this string.

These are the fundamental "F Major" chords in the guitar world.

You actually can take any combination of the notes F, A, and C

and make an "F Major" chord out of them. But to tell you the truth,

you will never find yourself using any other combination than

the ones shown here. So good luck, and practice the fingering

of these chords. After that they come naturally to you.
