Jammy bits use these as the base:

Emaj7 Dmaj7

e---7----5----

b---9----7----

g---8----6----

d---9----7----

a---7----5----

E-------------

The verse goes approx. like this:

Emaj7 Amaj Emaj7 Bmaj Amaj

-------9---------7----5-

-9----10----9----7----5-

-8-----9----8----6----6-

-9----11----9----5----5-

-7----------7-----------

------------------------

Of course, the chords can be played in any of their permutations

(such as the Amaj being the standard barred "2-2-2"), but I like

the tone on these positions, as well as their ease of play.

The remainder of the verse:

Amaj, C#m, Bmaj, Amaj (as in "right outside the lazy gate")

C#m, Bmaj, Dmaj, Amaj (as in "wondering where...")

That brings us to the chorus, which is all major barred chords:

G C G C

Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world

D C G C

Right now discover that you are the song that the morning brings

(I always play along with '77 era material and I swear that they

always sing "right now" =P)

At the end of the verse just drop in the doubled up Bmaj>Amaj and

slide into the series of E7>D7...

What I've done below is listed a couple of scales that "stack" on top

of each other...hopefully you'll see how they fit together.

This is a standard E major scale over a couple of octaves:

e----------------------------------------11-12-14-

b----------------------------------12-14----------

g-------------------------11-13-14----------------

d----------------11-13-14-------------------------

a-------11-12-14----------------------------------

E-12-14-------------------------------------------

This is a mixolydian scale (to my memory) Notes with "*" technically

aren't part of the scale per se, but will help you see how these all

fit together:

e----------------------------------9-11-12- Notice how the 11 and 12 on

b--------------------------9-10-12-------- the high e overlap the 11

g------------------8*-9-11---------------- and 12 from the E major.

d--------------9-11----------------------- Try playing them together.

a----9-11-12-----------------------------

E-12-------------------------------------

I've forgotten what this one's called,

but it's the next set of notes down the fretboard:

e---------------------------5-7-9- Again, notice where the notes on

b---------------------5-7-9------- this scale overlap those of the

g-----------------6-8------------- mixolydian above. The mixolydian

d-----------6-7-9----------------- pattern repeats next with the root

a-----6-7-9----------------------- being on the low E's 7th fret.

E-7-9----------------------------- Above that? The major again, root

being an open low E.

There you have it. Pop on your favorite version of Eyes and just

play the scales up and down over it until you're comfortable enough

to start mixing things up.
