George Jones - Silver Eagle guitar chord
Silver Eagle
George Jones & Merle Haggard
(A)Well he rides into town on the back of a big silver (D)eagle
(E7)Strapped to his shoulders are the burdens of staying on (A)top
And the lines in his face tell the story of an uphill (D)flight
You can (E7)tell how he feels day by day by the songs that he (A)writes
He's loved by millions somehow he's their prisoner as (D)well
As he (E7)rides down the road in his ten wheeled aluminum (A)cell
Now he lives for the day that the eagle will carry him (D)home
'Cause the (E7)glamour is over nearly all of his seeds have been (A)sown
(stop)Let him go silver (D)eagle there (E7)must be a better way to (A)fly
For this great American (D)poet who's (E7)singing his songs
About the everyday working man's (A)life
One night on the road just south of the Idyho (D)line
We were (E7)smoking some contracts and attempting to alter our (A)minds
Then just before daylight Hank pushed back his hat and he (D)said
"Ah we're (E7)puttin too much emphasis on bein' a star
Can't we do a little bit of living (A)instead"
(stop)Let him go silver (D)eagle there (E7)must be a better way to (A)fly
For this great American (D)poet who's (E7)singing his songs
About the everyday working man's (A)life
(stop)Let him go silver (D)eagle there (E7)must be a better way to (A)fly
For this great American (D)poet who's (E7)singing his songs
About the everyday working man's (A)life
The song is actually recorded in C#. ie, C#, F# & G#
You can ignore the (stop)s. That's just the way I play it.
You can also use A7 before the D in some places, but I don't bother.
When I get to the line that says "... Hank pushed back his hat and he said"
I say "This is Merle's part", and the next two lines are spoken.
I remember Merle singing a song once that he'd recorded with Willie,
and when he got to a particular line he said "This is Willie's part",
and he sang it just like Willie.
