R&B Legend El DeBarge Arrested For Narcotics
R&B singer El DeBarge, leader of beloved Motown family act DeBarge, was arrested in California on Sunday night on felony narcotics charges. An official from the Lancaster, Calif. Police Department said DeBarge, 46, who was held without bail, was in court on the charge Tuesday (Aug. 30), but would not reveal further details. Sgt. John Coffeen told People.com that DeBarge was "cooperative" when taken into custody, and that "an arrest like this usually involves abuse of a spouse or significant other. I don't know whose house it was." Debarge, born Eldra Debarge, also had several outstanding warrants, which included vandalism, drugs and driving with a suspended license according to authorities. Meanwhile, details of the rejected domestic violence charge were not available at press time. The singer is reportedly separated from his wife, Monica DeBarge. Vibe's October issue features "Broken Dreams," an exclusive story about DeBarge's troubled past. The 46-year-old had such hits as "Rhythm of the Night" and “All This Love” as lead singer of the family group DeBarge before launching a successful solo career.
