Official Announcement: TLC member Chilli Is Now A Konvict
TLC band member Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas has inked a new deal with Akon's Konvict Muzik imprint. The solo debut is set to release in mid-2007 and it will be distributed by Interscope Records. Akon will produce a majority of the album with Chilli; also lending production are Missy Elliott, the Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am and Timbaland.
"This will be totally opposite from when she was with the multi-platinum group," Akon tells Billboard. "She's an incredible artist and I want people to reconnect with her."
Chilli has been relatively quiet since the release of TLC's final album, 2002's "3D." That set was released in the wake of group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes death in a car accident.
In related news, Akon will begin casting in February for "Illegal Alien," a film inspired by the Senegalese-born singer's life story. "The majority of the film is basically true," says Akon, who will write, produce, co-direct and score the movie.
Akon will also launch his Konvict Clothing line of street wear and the more upscale Aliaune line in February 2007.
