This is a DUAL TRANSCRIPTION PAGE. The First part is the melodic

'single note' transcripion by Jose. The second version is an

in depth 'chord melody' tutorial by Karl. Jose's contains the

melody notes, Karl's contains the Ulian piper parts as well as

a chord glossary to the 'My Heart Will Go On - Chords' version

that is already is posted. We both have a slightly different

'view point' of the way the guitar melodies could be played.

Check them both out and make your own decision, or mix 'n' match!!

ENJOY!!!

This is a completed version of the guitar tab.

Notes:All right you noble people! You asked!. Here

is the INTRO, MIDDLE, GLOSSARY & ENDING.

As well as some notes on the key change to this

great song.

There's a simple way and a complex way.

Learn the simple way first.

See the melody before you actually touch the notes.

Sing to yourself as you play these notes.

It will help when you try the more advanced version.

This is the melody from an Ulian (sp?) Pipe, a Scottish

instrument similar to the bagpipe, 'stoked' with

the arm instead of blown. You can see one of these

pipers in the Video of "Riverdance" (some very hip music)

* The changed octaves enable the chord melody

to continue at a reasonable pitch level. I believe

it's just as powerful.

Here are some technical notes about this

key change that I think are fascinating:

The song is in E major, however it starts

in the reletive minor C#m (a forbearance of calamity?).

In the middle of the song the beautiful flute

is heard again, almost reasurring in its simplicity.

Then the flute RISES up to its highest note! At this

the BASS has DECENDED all the way from C# to F.

That's; C#, B, A, G#, F# and F that what's called a

minor 6th in music. DOWN 6 notes!

Into the virtual pool of a tonality: F minor!!!

WOW!!!

By the end of the piece this new key, however,

ASCENDS to it's reletive - Ab Major!

Perhaps in the end all these people really did

"ascend" to some higher plane as we'd hope to believe...!!!

ENDING:

Ab - 466544 fingered - 134211

Eb/Ab - x66886 fingered - x11341

Db/Ab - x46664 fingered - x13331

*This last section should be 'tap chimes' ala Eddie Van Halen.

Essentially it's done by slap/tapping the notes you're

fingering at the exact place 12 frets higher. With your

right hand fingers. I usually just drop the pick...

So if the chord:

Eb/Ab - x66886 fingered - x11341

were slap/tapped, you'd slap/tap at the frets:

x 16 16 18 18 16

So, the ending stuff is as follows

Ab - 466544 fingered - 134211

slapped 14 16 16 15 14 14

Eb/Ab - x66886 fingered - x11341

slapped x 16 16 18 18 16

Db/Ab - x46664 fingered - x13331

slapped x 16 16 18 18 16

Make the Rhythm of the slap/taps fit the beat format. You can

be sort of busy (eighth notes). It's really pretty hard

but well worth the dropped jaws when you play it for friends.

Electric players: turn on echo here...

The very last chord, Ab:

Ab - 466544 fingered - 134211

is stummed slowly up to the 3rd string

then let the 2nd string, then the 1st string ring out.

Hold on for dear life without ever letting on how huge

this song REALLY is.

ENJOY, karlg
