Mathew Knowles, the father and manager for superstar R&B songstress Beyonce Knowles, has fired back at comments made by legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin after the recent Grammy Awards. In a statement released Wednesday, Knowles said he will not allow his daughter Beyonce to even comment about the situation. "As a manager I am not taking something this ridiculous to Beyonce," Knowles stated. "Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a 'queen.' Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?" As previously reported, Franklin – known as the Queen of Soul – released a statement earlier this week addressing Beyonce's introduction of Turner during their duet Sunday night. With Franklin seated in the front row, Beyonce told the audience: "Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen." Aretha later stated: "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce. However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy." In his statement, Mathew Knowles said: "Something this ridiculous – it's childish, it's unprofessional. And it's a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess."
