R&B Singer Ashanti has joined the cast of 'Resident Evil: Extinction,' the third and final film in the franchise based on the popular video game.

Ashanti will join returning stars Milla Jovovich, Oded Fehr, Sienna Guillory, Mike Epps and Iain Glen in the Screen Gems production.

Director Russell Mculcahy is scheduled to start filming Monday in Mexico.

"Extinction" revolves around the continuing battle against the evil Umbrella by Alice (Jovovich) and her allies.

Ashanti appeared in "Coach Carter" and the upcoming "John Tucker Must Die."
