Alicia Keys Catches ‘Catfish,’ Preps Fashion Rock Gig

Alicia Keys

R&B superstar Alicia Keys, along with her partner and manager, Jeff Robinson, and their company, Big Pita, Little Pita Productions, have bought the rights to a script called "Catfish". Written by Charisse Waugh and based on a true story, the film focuses on a strong-willed black woman who stands up to a powerful corporation whose greed devastates her small Mississippi hometown. She spearheads the biggest strike in U.S. history. The project was generated through the Tribeca Film Institute's Tribeca All Access, a program designed to foster relationships between film execs and filmmakers from underrepresented communities. "Catfish" was one of 32 projects unveiled during the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Keys, who signed a TV series deal with UPN a year and a half ago, will later be seen opposite Scarlett Johansson in "The Nanny Diaries". In other Alicia Keys news, the Grammy winner is set to perform at the fourth annual Fashion Rocks event, presented by the Conde Nast Media Group, at Radio City Music Hall on Sept. 6. The concert will air the following evening as a two-hour special on CBS. Hosted by "Entourage" star Jeremy Piven, this year's event will also feature performances by Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy, Carrie Underwood, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Santana, Aerosmith and others.
